Just two points separate MOWA Neal Tire & Auto Centers Sprint Car Series’ point leader, “The Law Firm” Parker Price-Miller, and the five-time and only series champion, Jerrod Hull entering this weekend. Two historic events in Illinois await the series, and with just six dates remaining on the MOWA calendar, it will be an all-out assault on the title! Friday, September 9, the Herb Barlow Memorial will commence at Jacksonville Speedway. On Saturday, September 10, the Tom Knowles Memorial thunders on the high-banked Spoon River Speedway near Canton. In addition, the Lucas Oil POWRi midgets will be in competition both nights!
Early in the year, it appeared Hull may run away with another MOWA title, but Parker Price-Miller has matched his victory total at four. While Hull ripped off four victories in a row early in the season, Price-Miller notched his third and fourth wins during Illinois Speedweek. Strong runs as of late have the young driver from Kokomo, Indiana two points ahead of the veteran Sikeston, Missouri driver. AJ Bruns is in striking distance in third, followed by young Jake Blackhurst and veteran, Chris Urish. Eight different drivers have graced Victory Lane with the MOWA series this season!
Just six events remain on the MOWA Neal Tire & Auto Centers Sprint Car Series schedule. After this weekend’s events in Jacksonville and Spoon River, the series will be a part of the Gold Crown events at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois October 7 and 8. The series will bring their season to a close the following weekend, October 14 and 15 at the Shaheen’s Weekend and the Ron Milton Race of Champions in Jacksonville.
Hull won last year’s Herb Barlow, and leads all drivers in MOWA feature event wins at the ¼-mile Jacksonville bullring with five. However, it is Price-Miller who picked up the last MOWA win in July in Jacksonville, so this will be a showdown. Add a number of invaders and drivers doing double duty, and this one promises to be a thriller!
Gates open at 5 p.m. Friday in Jacksonville, with hot laps at 6 p.m. Time trials and racing will follow. In addition to the MOWA sprints and POWRi midgets, POWRi Micros, UMP Crate Late Models and Street Stocks will also be on the card! Adult Admission is $25, with ages 11-18 $7. 10 and under are FREE. Paul Nienhiser emerged victorious at last year’s Tom Knowles Memorial. The historic event is in its 32nd season. Hull is the only five-time sprint car winner of the Tom Knowles. Kevin Doty registered a total of six Tom Knowles trophies, five in a midget, and one in a sprint car! Jerrod Hull (2), Brian Brown, Chistopher Bell and Rico Abreu all join Nienhiser as MOWA winner at Spoon River.
Hot laps are scheduled for 6 p.m. at Spoon River Speedway with racing to follow. In addition to the MOWA sprints and POWRi midgets, the POWRi D2 midgets and modifieds will also be in attendance.
